Carnival Week

During the week of February 26-March 2, we will be celebrating Carnival at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School.  Throughout the week, teachers will be focusing on integrating cultural lessons into their curriculum.  We will also have a parent event on the evening of March 1 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School.  We will have student work displayed around the school and activities for students and families.

Each grade level will also be showcased during a short, informal performance at the parent event on March 1.   During these performances, students will demonstrate their new knowledge of various Spanish-speaking cultures through dancing, singing, acting, and more!  Students who are performing will need to meet with their class at the north side of the gym 5 minutes prior to the start of their performance.  To allow time for transitions between groups of students, performances will begin at the following times:

Kindergarten: 6:00 pm

1st Grade: 6:15 pm

2nd Grade: 6:30 pm

3rd Grade: 6:45 pm

4th Grade: 7:00 pm

5th Grade: 7:15 pm

We encourage students to dress up for school during the week, as we will also be celebrating Read Across America Week.  Each of our dress up days corresponds with an authentic Spanish text.  The dress up days are:

Monday, 2/26: Dress as Someone Who Inspires You, Los Astronautas

Tuesday, 2/27: Hat Day, El Renacuajo Paseador

Wednesday, 2/28: Wacky Wednesday, Juan Bobo Busca Trabajo
